Why we worship this way
What is the Order of the Service?
At St. Barnabas the Sunday service is always Holy Communion, at 10:00 a.m.: the preaching of God’s Word and the Lord’s Supper, in the order the 1928 Book of Common Prayer sets out. Evening Prayer is said on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.
The liturgical framework follows what theologian J. I. Packer identifies as the Gospel message itself, organized in three repeating movements:
- Confession of Sin
- Declaration of Grace
- Response of Faith
This pattern recurs throughout the service, reinforcing “the only way man may come to God.”
