The Rt. Rev. Daniel R. Morse, of blessed memory
Fr. Mike Keppler
It is with sorrow, and with sure and certain hope of the resurrection, that we remember The Rt. Rev. Daniel Rogan Morse, the first Vicar of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, who entered into rest on June 27, 2026, in Lynchburg, Virginia, in the eighty-second year of his life.
Bishop Morse was the first to feed this parish consistently from the pulpit. His sermons through Ephesians, preached to the newly gathered congregation in 2006, set before us what a new church ought to be: the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. His preaching through the Church Year that followed, and his teaching on worship, baptism, and the Christian life, remain with us. You can read them in the parish library and the sermon archive.
His ministry reached far beyond Bellville. Trained at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, with further studies in Hebrew in Jerusalem, he served congregations in Georgia, Pennsylvania, California, Tennessee, and Texas across more than fifty years. He was consecrated a bishop in the Reformed Episcopal Church in 1996, served the Diocese of Mid-America, and from 2008 led the Missionary Diocese of the Central States until his retirement in 2019.
Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in peace, and rise in glory.
